Our tree trimming & pruning service

There's a reason your neighbor's neighbor's tree looks butchered — most pruning in DFW is done by crews who get paid by the hour, by the truckload of brush, or by the speed they leave the property. None of those align with what your tree actually needs.

At Tree Care Pros, every cut follows the ANSI A300 pruning standard. We thin to reduce wind load. We raise canopies for clearance without stressing the tree. We do crown reduction by reaching back to lateral branches of appropriate size — never by topping. Our crews are supervised by ISA Certified Arborists, and our goal is a tree that looks completely natural when we leave.

What tree trimming & pruning solves

Storm safety

Properly thinned canopies survive Texas storms far better than dense, unmanaged ones. We reduce wind-sail without weakening structure.

Clearance

Over roofs, driveways, sidewalks, power lines, signs. We raise the canopy or selectively trim while preserving the tree's natural shape.

Dead, dying, diseased, damaged (the 4 Ds)

These limbs go first on every job — they're the actual hazards in most yards.

Sunlight & turfgrass

Selective thinning lets enough light through for the lawn, shrubs, or garden underneath without exposing the tree to sunburn.

Young tree structure

The single most under-appreciated pruning service. Small structural cuts now prevent enormous problems in 20 years.

Our process

How we approach tree trimming & pruning

1

Pre-prune walk

We walk the tree with you. You tell us what you want; we tell you what's possible without harming the tree.

2

Targeted cuts

Climbers or bucket-truck arborists make precision cuts. No top damage, no stubs, no flush cuts. Each cut is intentional.

3

Clean drops

Crew on the ground manages debris, protects landscape beds, and keeps your driveway and street clear.

4

Full chip & haul

All material is chipped, all stems hauled off. We rake. Your yard looks like we weren't there.

5

Sealing where needed

On oaks during oak-wilt-vulnerable months (Feb–June in Texas), every cut gets a proper wound sealant immediately.

What drives the price

  • Crane needs (rare for trimming)
  • Debris quantity & haul distance
  • Oak wilt protocol (during risk months)

Mistakes to avoid

What you should NOT do

  • Don't top your tree. Topping creates weakly-attached water sprouts that fail in storms — it's the single most destructive pruning practice.
  • Don't 'lion-tail' (strip interior branches leaving only end foliage). It looks tidy and is biomechanically catastrophic.
  • Don't prune oaks Feb–June in Texas without immediate wound sealant — that's prime oak wilt season.
  • Don't make flush cuts — leave the branch collar intact so the tree can seal the wound.
  • Don't paint or tar over routine pruning cuts on non-oak species — it slows wound closure.
  • Don't over-thin. Removing more than 25% of live foliage in a single season stresses the tree.

What to expect

A tree that looks like it grew that way — better balanced, healthier, and structurally sounder than when we arrived. No 'fresh haircut' look, no topping, no stubs. Most customers can't tell exactly what we did, only that the tree looks good and is no longer worrying them.

If you wait

The risks of not addressing this

Untrimmed mature trees develop dead and weak limbs that fail in DFW storms. Untrimmed young trees develop structural defects (co-dominant stems, included bark) that become major hazards in 10–20 years. Unmaintained crepe myrtles get 'crepe murdered' by less-qualified services and lose their natural form forever.

FAQ

Tree Trimming & Pruning questions answered

What time of year should I trim my trees?

Most North Texas species prefer late winter / early spring (Jan, before bud break) or late summer. OAKS are the exception — never prune Feb 1 to June 30 in Texas without oak-wilt protocol because of beetle activity and sap-feeding insects spreading the fungus. We'll always tell you the right timing for your specific tree.

Will trimming hurt my tree?

Done correctly, no — proper pruning actually improves long-term health. Done wrong (topping, over-thinning, bad timing on oaks), absolutely yes. The difference is the credentials and the practices of the crew doing it.

Why is topping so bad?

Topped trees respond by sending up dozens of weakly-attached 'water sprouts' that grow fast, look unnatural, and tear off in storms. Topping shortens a tree's life by decades and creates hazards where none existed.

Can you trim my trees away from power lines?

We trim up to (not into) primary power lines. Lines that need clearance from a primary conductor should be handled by your utility (Oncor in most of DFW). Service drops from pole to house are usually fine for us.

Do you do crepe myrtle pruning?

Yes — and we do it CORRECTLY (selective thinning, not the topping practice often called 'crepe murder'). If you've inherited a previously-topped tree, we can help restore better form over a few seasons.

How long does tree trimming take?

A typical single mature oak or large shade tree: 2–4 hours. A whole yard of mid-size trees: half a day to a full day. Big estates or commercial: multi-day.

Do you clean up after?

Yes — chip-and-haul cleanup is included on every job. We chip everything onsite, haul it off, and rake. You shouldn't see a stick when we leave.

How much does tree trimming cost in DFW?

Most residential trimming jobs in the DFW area fall between roughly $300 and $1,800 depending on size and number of trees. We provide free written estimates with no obligation.
